The Law of Attraction & Love: Can We Attract Romantic Relationships? How to Attract Money: Don’t Need It!
Jan 19

The inter-web has been all abuzz lately with talk of a sequel to The Secret. “The Secret 2” as many people are already calling the follow up, is being kept a bit of a mystery for the time being, but a few sites have been hinting that it’s on the way.

For example, Wikipedia claims the movie is under production right now and will be released spring 2008. But so far, the official Secret web site is making no mention of the Secret sequel. Hmmm…

Several of the teachers from The Secret have also implied (or in some cases confirmed) there will be a sequel, though they have mostly gone quiet on the subject lately, building even greater mystery.

There is no doubt that The Secret has made a huge impact on popular culture, and introduced many people to the philosophies of “implied responsibility,” and “attraction,” which in my mind, can only be a good thing. But the film certainly has its share of detractors too.

It is a bit odd that a film like this can incite so much controversy. 95% of all films released seem to re-hash the same well-worn motifs of victimization, tragedy and powerlessness. And then along comes Rhonda Byrne with a simple message of loving yourself, and believing in your own power, and some people seem to respond with violent emotional outbursts (oh dear)!

It seems that every once on while, some beautiful soul will go out on a limb and say, “Hey, wait a minute; we are all one, and guess what? Our thoughts have power.” And as soon as they do, some group or other will get so offended by this sentiment that they’ll try to squash it immediately. Makes you wonder what they are afraid of…

But as the late-great Bill Hicks once said, “If you’re offended by any of this–you probably deserve to be.” Haha

Personally, I hope there are 50 Secret sequels and 5000 other Law of Attraction videos in the very same vein–the world needs better influences than the same-old mindless horror films and so-called “reality” programs we’re getting now. We DESERVE better.

So I say, bring on The Secret 2, and any film like it. It’s all good.

Namaste,
Jon

  1. Colin McIver Says:

It is interesting to me to from covnersations that I have had with teachers from The Secret directly that there has not to date been a conversation about the Secret part 2. This rumour is really nothign but a rumour. However, those I have spoken with have spoken very highly of the film The Opus. And many of them are involved in this project. I know that it claims no formal affiliation with The Secret - but as far as I can see it is the only film that is approaching the status of a being a sequel to The Secret. It features secret stars Jack Canfield, Joe Vitale, Marci Shimoff, John demartini, Bob doyle and Morris Goodman as well as many other top people. it should be interesting to see. Any thoughts from anyone about this movie? I noticed on Squidoo that there is a vote for people to share their thoughts on whether or not it will be better than the Secret and 95.4% said Yes. the Opus will be better. Very interesting. Please share your thoughts.

Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is filled with instances of The Secret principles. Read a short essay that draws parallels between the message of The Secret and the 19th century English novel here http://humanscience.wikia.com/wiki/The_Principles_of_The_Secret_in_Pride_and_Prejudice

I saw the Opus movie and I loved it. I loved it far better than the secret and the moses code. The Opus is definitely the king of personal development films. And the reason why is that it actually has valuable content!!!! I was really pleased and left the room feeling totally inspired to do great things. Or in the words of Joe Vitale “DARE SOMETHING WORTHY.” Go see this movie - you will be pleased!!!

this movie looks interesting… premiering at SXSW in March 2009.

Speakers from The SEED Conference in Chicago will be interviewed by Melissa Pierce, director of the upcoming inspirational movie Life in Perpetual Beta which Peirce promises viewers “an intellectual debate on purpose, passion and authenticity as applied to living life and starting a business in the web 2.0 era, followed by an action plan with advice from recognized leaders”. She is also the featured “co-creative life coach” at the popular lifestyle design social network BigLife.ws http://www.biglife.ws/profile/MelissaPierce

Could this be the sequel to The Secret for intellectuals who can’t stand fluffy science???

The Opus is definitley the strongest film of late to follow the Secret. There are so many people coming out now to pass of these cheap imitation films. (Pass it on, The Compass, even the Moses code in my opinon fell short.) Everyone of these films is trying in someway to call themselves the sequel to the Secret. I think that is just plain crazy. There was only one secret. Leave it at that.

Having said that I think we can safely applaud The Opus for a very good looking film with practical information. Check it out, and check out the others - but for real people, let’s quit trying to create all these secret sequels, and if you’re going to make a movie be original and do it right. Shame on the imitators.

Thank you Jon for the great article & I agree with you 150%. Especially at the onset of this global economic crisis, people will yearn to consume more positive & entertaining content. Imagine if everyone in financial trouble just “Visualized” more money, would they still be in the same situation?

I keep hearing about the Secret 2. I would love for there to be a sequel, honestly. There were some gaps which people pointed out (although I always felt that the essence was enough), and certainly more people wanted to know how to drum up their dream relationship!

For those who want a sequel while they are waiting for the real one, check out What the Bleep Do We Know. It provides some insight into how The Secret actually works from a scientific standpoint.
