The
Science of Getting Rich
The Science of Getting Rich is a remarkable
book written by Wallace D. Wattles back in 1906. It
has inspired entrepreneurs and successful people for
generations, and continues to be one of the most popular
books on the subject of accumulating wealth.
Wattle's
book is founded on an ancient philosophy known as monism,
which theorizes that all of nature is actually one whole,
and only appears to be the seemingly different elements
we see in the world.
The
Science and Getting Rich was influenced greatly by the
philosopher Spinoza, who based his holistic philosophy
on an ancient Hindu belief that all matter is simply
a physical manifestation of the same energy which permeates
the universe. While this may sound complex, and even
pretty "out there" at first glance, Wattle's
explanation of this philosophy, and how it applies to
attracting wealth into our lives is straightforward,
and mostly based on common sense examples that are easily
found in our day-to-day lives.
Wallace
Wattles was a successful businessman and author. His
work influenced many great thinkers, and even the burgeoning
Christian Science movement of the early 1900s. Contrary
to popular belief, Wattles asserts that there is no
lack or limitation in the natural world -- only abundance.
This one profound statement underlies the entire philosophy
of abundance found in The Science of Getting Rich.

For
most of us, this concept of natural abundance is difficult
to accept at first. After all, we grow up in a world
where we are constantly exposed to images of lack and
limitation, and it is easy to assume that this is our
natural state of being. Wallace Wattles turns the tables
on this paradigm, and explains that abundance is both
our birthright and our natural state. In fact, Wattles
explains how we actually must go out of our way to create
lack, limitation or poverty in our lives, as these things
are unnatural.
To
make this point, Wattles constantly refers to nature,
and especially the abundance that is found in the natural
world. As part of the natural world, humans are subject
to the same laws of nature that govern plant life and
the animal kingdom, and we succeed or fail to attract
abundance into our lives based on whether we follow
the principles of nature, or reject them.
The
Science of Getting Rich also contains many practical
exercises and techniques for creating abundance in our
lives. In fact, each chapter of the book uncovers a
new technique for coming into alignment with nature,
and thus, attracting the abundance that all nature enjoys.
Despite
its heavy philosophy background, The Science of Getting
Rich is primarily a practical book, and it is dedicated
to only one subject -- the accumulation of wealth. However,
Wallace Wattles points out that real wealth is more
than the numbers we see in our bank account, and the
book encourages people to live abundantly, in EVERY
area of their life -- not just financially.

Books
such as this take quite a bit of time to digest for
many people. After all, they directly contradict many
of the paradigms we are taught from a young age to accept.
For example the old saying, "money is the root
of all evil," is a big stumbling block for many
people. Stereotypes like this install a subconscious
belief in many people that prosperity and wealth is
something not worth pursuing, and will only lead to
unhappiness.
The
Science of Getting Rich scoffs at such ideas, and points
out that the accumulation of wealth and abundance is
NATURAL, and that anyone who does not desire greater
wealth and abundance in their life is not acting in
accordance with nature itself.
Learning
to perceive wealth and abundance in a new way is really
the goal of books like The Science of Getting Rich.
It takes time and study to understand and accept the
ideas presented, but there is no denying that the philosophy
presented in the book is powerful, and has been a great
influence of some of the wealthiest individuals of the
last 100 years.
