Research shows that the majority of our communication with others is nonverbal. Think about that for a moment. It’s not just what we say that matters, but also how we say it.

For example, I’ve recently posted several new videos on the AttractAnything Youtube channel about projecting an image of success. Our clothing, behavior, tone of voice and even our hand gestures are all important; and in fact, it’s easy to use subtle hand gestures to project an image of success, and attract people and opportunities to you.

There are simple NLP anchoring techniques you can use to associate yourself with concepts such as success, wealth, abundance, and nearly anything else you can think of.

And the really cool thing is this: these techniques are not only understood by other people’s subconscious minds, they are also understood by YOURS. With repetition, they will condition you to “see” yourself as a successful, prosperous person. We all know how important that is, right? =)

So it’s a win-win situation. These kinds of techniques, along with visualizing success and abundance, and “dressing the part” go a LONG way toward projecting a successful, confident image that can dramatically improve your fortunes in life.

Remember, we don’t attract what we “want” — we attract more of what we already “have.” That’s why projecting the energy of success and abundance is so important. It makes you a magnet for MORE success, and MORE abundance. Cool how that works out, eh?

Check out the videos on the official AttractAnything YouTube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/attractanything

Continued success and abundance!

Are you swimming in a sea of lack and limitation? Are you surrounded by people, places, things and attitudes that inspire you? Or do you find yourself in an environment that reflects values, attitudes and beliefs you really don’t want as a part of your life?

So many people are afraid that they’ll be called a “snob” if they refuse to compromise on their environment. That’s a real shame, because as much as we affect our environment (and we certainly do), our environment also affects us. If you surround yourself with poverty, lack, ignorance, hopelessness or helplessness, it’s going to be almost impossible for you to live any kind of wealthy life.

Why? It has to do with our beliefs and are paradigms. Our beliefs determine what we “see” ourselves as being capable of. And trust me, you will NOT achieve something you cannot see yourself being capable of — most of the time you won’t even try it.

World renown psychologist Albert Ellis once famously said, “we become what we think about all day long.” Ellis was pointing out that our beliefs and paradigms are “shaped” and “solidified” by the things we choose to give our attention to. And, of course, our beliefs and paradigms determine what we realistically think we can achieve, what we think we deserve, and where we “fit in” in the world. And wherever we “see” ourselves fitting in to the tapestry of life, that’s pretty much where we’re going to be. Re-read that last sentence and think about your current situation. You’ll find that it is true beyond any doubt.

The problem is, if your environment has the smell of lack and limitation all over it, that is what is going to be on YOUR radar all day long — every day. Given enough time, it WILL affect your state of mind, your beliefs and how you think.

If you swim in a sea of lack and limitation you WILL get wet.

I grew up in a very poor area, among people who worked extremely hard (much harder than I work) for very little pay, always struggling to get by. They always talked about how tough things were, they planned for the worst and they expected life would always be hard. But here is a question I want you to REALLY think about:

Do poor people talk about how tough things are and expect life to be hard because they are poor. OR…are they poor BECAUSE they talk about how tough things are and expect life to be hard? (continued below)

Every second that you spend talking about lack and limitation is a second you are not focused on recognizing the abundance and opportunity around you. And don’t kid yourself — abundance and opportunity are always there. As many millionaires are made during times of recession as when the markets are booming.

I want to be clear though; I’m not “beating up” on poor people or judging them. On the other hand, I’m also not praising or honoring them. I point this out because many people have a habit of praising those who work very hard for very little reward. Why? Does it somehow make a person more noble or more ethical to work their fingers to the bone and not be abundantly compensated for their efforts? Of course not.

People are just people — some people do things that get good results, and some people don’t. Good or bad doesn’t enter into it.

I’m the type of person who generally gets along with everybody — I pretty much always have been. But I’ll tell you a “secret.” I don’t hang out with people who are focused on lack and limitation, and nine times out of 10 those people are poor. I don’t do this because I think I’m better than anyone — I do it because I want something different in my life, and I KNOW that surrounding yourself with lack-based attitudes has a very detrimental effect on your state of mind.

Remember Albert Ellis’ “law”: we become what we think about all day long. And for better or worse, whatever it is in your environment is going to be on your mind. It is your responsibility to surround yourself with good attitudes and positive concepts such as abundance, opportunity, personal responsibility (as opposed to the victim mindset), and values you agree with.

If your current environment does not reflect these things, it’s up to you to start making some changes. Now, I know you may not be able to change a poor or lack-based environment overnight, but you CAN begin shaking things up. And even if you begin modestly, you will see the snowball effect begin to work. And by all means, if you have people in your life who constantly focus on lack, try to gently nudge them in the right direction. If you can’t, fair enough. At least you tried. But you may have to simply spend less time around them if they’re not ready to move on to a better place in their life.

As you increase your attitude of abundance and your recognition of wealth and opportunity around you, it’s good to bring other people up with you — if you can of course. But remember, you do not have to hang out with ANYONE or any situation that reinforces a mindset of lack or limitation. In fact, if you want to live any kind of successful life (however you define success), you can’t afford to.

I received a Tweet yesterday asking two good questions: “why is a positive attitude so important,” and “isn’t the law of attraction just denial?”

So lets start with why I think a positive mindset is so critical: Encouragement and motivation help us to see possibilities where we once saw walls. Every battlefield commander or football coach understands the importance of “rallying the troops” because it changes their mindset. And when you change your mindset you are capable of different things.

My high school football coach would curse and scream at halftime and motivate us that we could do it. And his speeches would have a big effect sometimes and change the outcome of the game.

How is that possible? That someone’s words could change the results other people get on a football field?

A positive mindset can mean the difference between success and failure. Attitude has been know to win unwinnable wars many times (and football games).

When you learn to focus your mind on the BEST things, the things you want, and ignore the other, you will naturally begin to DO different things, and that leads to getting different results.

This is why a positive mindset about money is important. You need to believe that you deserve it and there is plenty to go around for everyone (this applies to other things too!). That belief affects what you do and the choices you make, it also affects how other people see you.

Example: I just hired a guy to help out with some new web projects because I could “sense” a very positive and prosperous vibe on him. He carried himself like someone who believed he would succeed. ALL employers are attracted to that (so are friends, potential dates, etc).

But if he had had a lack-based vibe I honestly don’t think he would’ve got the job. Attitude is so important in school, business, everything.

The law of attraction isn’t denial — among other things, it’s a tool to help us keep a positive attitude and focus on the best in life and ourselves. And doing this makes us capable of achieving more — much, much more!

The second is to set larger goals, even uncomfortably large, that push boundaries and maybe even scare you a bit.

Most people choose the first type of goals. The rationale usually goes something like this:

“If I set my goals too high and fail to reach them I will suffer disappointment; so it’s better to just set a small goal that I am more likely to achieve.”

This may seem like both a sensible and safe option, but in reality it’s neither. Here’s why: it is rare for a person to reach their exact goals in life — it is much more common to “get close.”

We can use income goals as an example. People who set an income goal of $500,000 a year rarely achieve that exact amount. But if your goal is $500,000, it becomes MUCH more likely that you will achieve $300,000 or even $400,000 that year, than if you set a much smaller goal — say $100,000. It’s just something about human nature — even the greatest achievers among us rarely hit the bullseye.

That’s why it is so important to set big goals — very big. For example, if you want to get into great shape, you might set a goal to eat ONLY healthy foods. But let’s keep it real: it is unlikely that you will never again eat french fries, pizza or ice cream. But if you set a BIG goal like this you will probably get a lot closer to your ideal than if you settled for a smaller goal, like only eating junk food “sometimes.”

The secret to being comfortable setting big goals is to realize that not reaching your exact goal is never a failure — it’s simply a part of the process (and of human nature). One of my coaching clients had a goal of making $80,000 annually when we first began working together. Now, if you’re flat broke or making only 20 or $30,000 per year, setting a goal of $80,000 annually might seem pretty big. The problem was, he was already making $50,000 a year, so obviously his goal was MUCH too small.

Instead, I suggested he increase his goal to a figure that was a little uncomfortable for him: $150,000 per year. It took some time working together before he began to realistically “see” and believe that this was doable for him. But after a few weeks he started to become quite comfortable with the idea, and after one month we even bumped up the figure to $160,000 per year.

The more we talked about these figures, the more he began to have faith in his ability to make that much, and even more. So what happened? Did he make $160,000 over the next year. Actually no. I spoke to him last month and he told me he ended up making $110,000 over the previous 12 months, well short of his $160,000 goal. You think he was disappointed?

Hell no! He called specifically to give me the good news, and was in a celebratory mood. He understood that had he stayed with his original goal of $80,000, there is NO WAY he would have made $110,000. It’s pretty normal to fall short of any goal we set, and by aiming much higher he was able to achieve an income far beyond his original expectations, and quite frankly, more money than he had ever made in his life.

It’s all a matter of perspective. If you begin talking about and thinking about making very large sums of money, it’s no guarantee you’re going to make that much money. But it makes it much more likely you’re going to get in that ballpark, so to speak. But guess what? If you set a smaller goal, the same human tendency to fall short still applies, so you are unlikely to reach even that goal. Had my client continued with his goal of $80,000 a year, he probably would have made $50-$60,000 — perhaps not even that much.

Life is funny, and human behavior is even funnier. I can’t tell you why most of us rarely hit our exact goals, but I have noticed this phenomenon over and over again, and in lots of different areas of life. When a field goal kicker lines up to kick a 30 yard field goal, he’s not trying to kick the ball ONLY 30 yards — he’s trying to kick that thing into the next town!

And just like the field goal kicker, we get a LOT further in life when we try to “overshoot” our goals, aiming well beyond our usual expectations. So get out there and set some outrageously high goals — kick that ball into the next town!

Do Successful People Fail More Often than Others…?

Everyone fails. No matter how successful you are, and how great your success mindset is, sometimes you are going to try things that just don’t work out for you. Someone recently reminded me that Henry Ford went bankrupt five times before finding success with the Model T.

Think about that just a minute — many people would have been ready to throw in the towel after just one or two bankruptcies, but Ford persisted even after five major business failures. Now THAT is a success mindset!

Henry Ford’s story reminds me of a very counterintuitive point about success: successful people fail more often than others. It sounds paradoxical, but even a cursory glance at the world’s most successful people proves that they have had more failures (and often large and devastating failures like bankruptcies) than the average person.

The reason why successful people fail more often is pretty obvious when you think about it. Successful people take risks; they don’t sit on the sidelines watching the world go by (like the majority of people). And because people with the success mindset try more things and are not afraid to put themselves “out there,” they often have more failures in their past than others.

Take a moment to REALLY think about what this means. Successful people are not successful because they don’t fail — they are successful because they don’t quit.

In fact, many times our “failures” are not failures at all. Having failed at many things in my life, I can honestly say that 99% of them were learning experiences that brought me one step closer to success. In this sense, you could say that every “failure” is actually just a step along the road to success.

Another great acheiver with an undeniable success mindset, Thomas Edison, tried 10,000 different variations before discovering a filament that would burn correctly to create an electric light bulb. A reporter once asked Edison, “How did it feel to fail 10,000 times trying to create an electric light?” Edison replied, “I never failed once — creating the electric light was a process that had 10,000 steps.”

I think it is wise to remember Edison’s words whenever we fall short of a goal or feel that we have “failed” in some way. More than likely, this perceived “failure” is just a transitory step in the process of success.

I recently uploaded a new video on the AttractAnything YouTube channel discussing the difference between success and failure. Check it out here.

Peace & Prosperity,
