Hi Lisa, Even though practicing gratitude is a really positive experience for many people, everyone is different (and that's good!) and we all experience it in a different way. The bottom line is, anything that makes you feel fearful is not good for you; so in your case I believe it's more important to focus on why you DESERVE the good things.

My advice is to don't concern yourself with gratitude right now. Instead, make an "awesome list" every day, where you list all the ways you are awesome. Dig deep and you'll find lots of them.

Ideas: Maybe you're a great friend, mother, daughter, sister, worker, athlete, chef, writer, "fashionista," singer, artist. Maybe you have a great sense of humor, give good advice, have a quiet wisdom, have creative ideas, work well with others, are a great leader, speak a second language, are a safe driver, have a nice speaking voice, are computer savvy, are very loyal, etc.

Find all the things that are awesome about you, all the reasons WHY you are awesome, and look for new ones each day. Write them down sometimes, and other times just list them in your head. The more you do it, the more you will build and strengthen neural pathways around this type of thought. Soon you will naturally see yourself that way. This will help you feel more deserving of all the good out there, and less inclined to let fear spoil your party ;-)

When I focus on how thankful I am for things, often times I am overwhelmed with fear that I will lose them... is there anyway to minimize the fear and hold on to the thankfullness?
